Caves Beachside Resort Ocean Swim 2009
Caves Beach Surf Lifesaving Club hosted a successful and spectacular Caves Beachside Resort Ocean Swim event at Caves Beach on Sunday March 8th.
With Caves Beachside Resort as the new major sponsor, over 300 competitors took to the water at Spoon Rocks and swam the 1.5km journey to Caves Beach.

Competitors from as young as 12 years of age were on the starting line with those more comfortable with wetsuits, flippers or kickboards taking their place in the “Back of the Pack” category.

The sheltered start within Spoon Rocks was short lived as competitors moved out into a solid southerly swell that at times made navigation difficult for competitors.
In the Elite men’s division Novacastrian, Jarrod Killey, made it two wins in a row. It was a successful day for Eliza Smith who took out the first place prize money in the Elite women’s division and backed it up with a win in the “dash for cash”.

Sydney based swimmer Saxon Bird was first to grab the money in the men’s division of the Dash for Cash.
Darryl Hadfield one of the event organisers said “the ocean swim circuit now has over 50 swims nationally and over 18,000 swimmers have participated in events so far this summer. The Caves Beachside Resort Ocean Swim is regarded as the premier ocean swim event in the Hunter region. “

Caves Beach Surf Lifesaving Club would like to thank the generous support of the Caves Beachside Resort and look forward to planning another exciting event in 2010.
